Angrily he fled, slinking around the crumbling gravestones and memorials that gracefully dotted the churchyard, until he had reached the tallest cross at the edge of the yard, pulling himself to the very peak of it.
Standing from the top of the cross, his feline figure stretched over the white wood, Araje-yu felt the smallest pinprick of fury fading away. Heights continued to comfort him.
Almost shyly, he stared down from his perch and into the churchyard, where the headstones stretched out like thousands of white-sailed ships in a sea of muddied grass, or the morbid speckles of paint thrown across a foreign landscape.
Araje felt his heartbeat slowly pulsing in the normal rhythms, and he sighed deeply.
