(( Hopefully this isn't too bad, as I'm still finding her voice.))
This was not how things were supposed to go.
The wolf growled as she tried to spit more of the blood out of her mouth. Disgusting. There was no other word for the lingering bitter taste.
She liked to keep to herself. For as long as she remembered, she had been alone. She had to struggle for everything. From taking on odd jobs to try to pay the bills to doing shady things to get by, she worked hard. It all ultimately led to her finding peace and quiet so she could watch the miserable world crumble around others.
That was what she enjoyed. Watching someone try to dig themselves out of rubble and snow, someone being mugged, someone falling down a flight of stairs--they were all unspeakably beautiful moments that brought her nothing but joy.
And someone had to go and ruin it.
She had never bothered to get close to anyone. Chida had learned early on that everyone would let her down. She had no one she was particularly close to, but there were a few people who enjoyed bothering her from time to time. If she periodically entertained them they would leave her alone for extend periods. They also treated to her to things, and it was hard to refuse anything for free.
A small part of her admitted that it was fun to watch her companions act like idiots. Breaking things and causing a ruckus. It was fun to watch the over reactions, the anger, and sometimes the pain and fights that broke out.
Apparently her wonderful companions were finally sick of her not participating in the nonsense they created. Her nose wrinkled with displeasure as the male went on about something. Ultimately it led to an insult.
Perhaps they had underestimated her simply on her type? He wasn't prepared for any sort of retaliation, and she was quite capable of smashing his head against the wall. In a simple motion she cracked his head against the stone.
He was a seasoned fighter. In retrospect it was a dumb idea to issue a challenge in such a reckless manner, but he got the message loud and clear. Chida wasn't going to sit back and take an insult even if it was from someone she was acquainted with. She knew full well that fighting wasn't the best solution, but her pride was on the line. She valued that far more than companions who ultimately failed her.
It was a fight. A battle for honor and pride. She was up against something built for destruction. He was a brute, but everyone had a weakness, and she had watched his various fights before. He had never seen her lift a finger against someone, and it wasn't like she was a stranger to getting into scuffles. Periodically she would watch the wrong person suffer, and they would try to take their anger out on her.
Her teeth made contact with his neck, she pulled back sharply, taking a chunk of him with her. He made a satisfying shriek as he stumbled backwards.
He was obviously stunned. As she spit out the blood she assessed the situation. It would take more than a simple wound like that to kill the hulking bastard in front of her, but while he was stunned she could act. Throwing him off balance would be enough to give her a proper advantage. Her shoulder hit his chest at full speed; they both hit the ground in a tangle of limbs.
She got a hold on his neck again, her jaws tearing as he clawed at her. She was pushed off, taking pieces of him with her as she went. He made another sound, this one more of a gurgle than anything else. She pounced again, her front paws smashing his head against the ground. There was a resounding crack.
He was still breathing, and he was still capable of clawing at her. She snarled when his claws drew blood, she had mostly been unscathed and now? Why wouldn't he just die? Why did everything have to be so complicated?
The amount of damage he had taken was enough to slow him down though. She may have gotten cut by his claws and spikes, but he wasn't going to walk away from this fight. When he sluggishly went to swipe she charged again, this time she latched on and didn't let go.
And he finally stopped moving. She could understand why the gladiators fought to the death. There was something satisfying about life being extinguished in the blink of an eye.
He hit the ground with a meaty thud. She spit out the blood, trying to wipe her mouth with a paw. Next time she killed someone she'd do it in a neater fashion.
On a whim she pulled a mouth full of feathers out of the hide. She'd put his dead body to good use. A little decoration as a warning. Just because she liked to observe didn't mean she wasn't capable of fighting back and destroying the threat.
Something shifted behind her. Her head snapped around, her teeth were bared, "What? Do you want to be next?"
This evening needed to be over with. She just needed to get away and celebrate her victory in peace. No one approached her, they all kept their distance. People started dissipating now that the fight was over.
She scooped up her prize and left.
