Your Name: Saturnalia E-mail: etaven@gmail.com URL: dragongoddess.tripod.comCharacter Name: Endenu ID:Gender: Male Sub-Species: Defore Rank: Artisan Breed: Equine Type: Gold Variation: Ninidia Mutations: None Accessories: -Silver neclace with golden charm: swirls holding turquoise -Golden tailband w/ silver swirl overlay -Earrings (Some studs, some dangling) -Leather pouch on foreleg w/ small dreamcatcher inside, rarely opened Notes: Endenu, being of the ninidia variation, lived most of his life with the Native Americans in the midwest region of the US. From them, he learned much, and gained a deep appreciation of nature. Because of this, the jewelry he crafts often is adorned with leaves and the like. Endenu's childhood was relatively normal, though when asked about his father, he tends to be slightly bitter. Overall, he seems fairly indifferent towards his early family life. As an adolescent, he was mostly concerned with the art of his rank, and spent much time with the artisans in the Native tribes that he wandered between. His most prized craft is that of making dreamcatchers and adorning them with whatever baubles and such he may have access to, but he rarely shares these with anyone, and rarely makes them, except under special circumstances. For whatever reason, he views dreams and the manipulations of dreams to be extremely sacred. He hides a small scar on his chest, between his front legs, given to him when he attempted to flee a challenge by another Defore. He refuses to speak of the incident to most, out of embarassment, but the cause of it was a lovely female defore that Endenu had been determined to seduce... until her mate had attacked him. For this reason, he treads carefully around males of his kind, though he can't resist flirtation with females. You're in France.
Which is certainly not Greece, but it's closer than England was to your desitnation. Arry left you with little instruction, other than to take the ferry to France, and hurry over to the first train station you can find. Which is exactly what you were doing, but it wasn't working out all that well. You, of course, knew very little French. And the French knew very little english. Frankly, you were rather screwed, weren't you? Why couldn't Arry have just...come along to help, or sent you a guide or...
"Hello my uncertain traveller. Looking for the train station?"
Your head snapped up at the voice, and infront of you stood a very cheerful looking person, clad in a blue suit and tie, with shiney black shoes, and an enormously large top hat perched upon its head. The strange thing was that...you weren't too sure about this persons gender. And the voice was so unisex, you couldn't quite tell that either.
How odd.
It, or he, or she, or whatever it was, bend its head and lowered its voice for you,"Don't worry, chap, Arry sent me off to help you. Wouldn't want to be wandering about alone out here, would you?" It stepped away again and waved his hand for you to follow,"Come along, come along, train station is this way." It pulled up its sleeve and checked one of..many watches that clung to its arm,"We're in a bit of a rush, so you might want to hurry."
In fact, know that the...person mentioned it, you could see the train station yourself, not too far from here, and all ready boarding passangers. It was really up to you know, to follow this unusual...er...being, or to go off by yourself. Afterall, not everyone was to be trusted. How did you know Arry sent this person at all? How did it know you were...well, you, anyway? It was very suspicious, if you ask me.

Endenu blinked at the odd character, attempting, in vain, to assess the gender. Why couldn't they have just sent an outright female? he thought to himself, almost wistfully. He looked towards the station.
"I assume then, that's the train I should be boarding?" he questioned the stranger. Well, he thought to himself, as long as this... person is also going to the train station, I guess there isn't too much to do but follow. And there must be signs somewhere near the train that say 'Greece'... I can thank him and be on my way, if need be.
He followed the stranger towards the station, continuing to asses his... guide. He also tried not to trip, or drop anything he was carrying; he wasn't used to being fully shifted into a human form. Don't Euclides chiefs... er, puppet masters wear hats like those? Hrmmm...
"Excuse me," he said to the stranger. "May I ask your name?" He paused. "I am Endenu, but if you spoke with Arry, I'm sure you already knew that. How do you know Arry, might I ask?" He hoped the questions would help give him a few more clues about this strange... person. All the while, he kept a lookout for a sign that might confirm the train in the station to be leaving for Greece.

"There's hardly enough time for conversation," the 'guide' muttered, ushering you forward with an insistent push,"And try not to jerk around so much when you walk. You'll find being human much easier that way."
The train station loomed up again, but the line of passengers being admitted was much, much shorter that it had been moments ago. If you didn't get there soon, you might miss the train completely. No wonder this...person, was being so insistent about hurrying. "Left, right, left, right, left, right, c'mon! Don't make me sing the bloody walking song!" Prod, prod, prod.
Goodness, it wouldn't take much of this guy (gal?) to wear one down to their last raw nerve.
"I will of course be coming with you, until you get to Greece. We normally wouldn't have to do this, but you'll be switching trains along the way, and we certainly don't want you getting lost, now do we?" it paused, in both speech and pace, then jumped back into action, grabbing your elbow and racing down the street with surprising speed, one hand clutching at its top hat so it didn't fall.
The train, it seemed, had just finished boarding the last passenger.
With an exhilarated rush, the two of you make it just in time. Your guide nearly falls on top of the conductor, panting for breath and wheezing something about 'damn tiny lungs'. A few words were muttered between you, and the person stepped away to usher you into the train,"Hurry up then. Get in, find your seat, and wait for me. I'll be there in a minute,"it paused,"Don't get lost, or fall down, or anything. I just need to have a few words with the conductor, then it'll be time for conversation,"it grinned and jerked its head in the direction of the train.
An open chance to explore the train, and perhaps leave that odd being behind. Would you take it? Or find your seat and wait for the guide to return to you and finally get around to answering your query of questions?

Endenu wheezed slightly, having never been too much of a fan of running. He glanced around the train, and back at his 'guide'. With a sigh, he decided that it was probably best to follow his 'companion's' suggestion. And, after all, he'd been walking around that city all day, looking for a train. It would be nice to sit.
He looked at his ticket, and glanced around. With some help from a nearby steward of some sort (wordless, thankfully for Endenu- he just flashed the ticket and the uniformed man pointed down the row) Endenu found the seat, and sat down, close to the window. Luckily enough, part of his journey across the U.S. to answer The Call had been on train... although, then, he'd been stowed away on a shipping car. All the same, the motion was something he was relatively used to.
Endenu waited for the other to return, curious about... it. Gender was still a mystery, for one thing... as well as name, and all of that. There was only one way to find out, though, so Endenu sat, and passed the time by studying the other passengers. He tried to repress his disgust for white men as much as possible; having been raised by Indians, he resented a great many of the pale human's actions. But this is not America, he thought to himself. And if I intend to succeed, I'll need to get used to being surrounded by them. He settled down, trying to get accustomed to his 'new' body by adopting the small movements and habits of the humans around him.

It seemed like hours before your guide returned to you. It couldn't have been though, the conductor would not have allowed for such time to pass with a train scheduled to leave. Just as the hunkering metal machine growled to life, did the strange being slip into its seat beside you, wearing an ever present grin on its pale features. "Have a good wait, did you?" the question was asked so cheerfully that you couldn't decide whether it was mocking you or not. It quickly changed the subject, though.
"Questions, right?" it grinned, bright white teeth flashing as it prodded its top hat back onto the center of its head, it had begun to droop leftward,"My name is Ayrul, and I indeed knew your name before you told me,"it prodded your forehead with one abnormally long finger,"But not because of Arry. And I certainly didn't enjoy that comment about 'an outright female',"to that, it frowned and crossed its gangly arms over its chest,"It was very rude, I'll have you know. Especially since I am not female." It didn't speculate on whether or not it was male, either,"Arry and I are....friends, of a sort. It's really no matter to us.
"Now I'd ask you some questions, but it'd be a waste of my time,"it grinned again, tapping it's own forehead this time,"Telepathic, you know." The grin widened,"But just to make you feel better...are you hungry? Or thirsty? Or tired? Or bored, heaven forbid?" it chuckled,"I can flag down a stewardess for you if you need something, but if perchance I need to leave, I'd rather you didn't get up until I get back. Don't want you getting yourself into any trouble, after all."

Endenu blinked, brushing slightly longish blond hair out of his eyes. "My apologies, then, Ayrul, but I was unaware that my thoughts were not merely my own. Some may consider mindreading without first asking to be rude as well, but I'll try to keep my thoughts quieter. No offense was meant." He shrugged, tone changing a bit as his eyes showed a brief flash of his typical mischevious mindset. "I fear my... social manners... may simply be more tailored to the ladies. But that, I suppose, is something I'll have to work on."
He cocked his head to the side slightly. "I am a bit thirsty." He paused. "Though, what sort of trouble do you expect me to get in here?" He looked around, amusement once more coloring his voice. "My taste does not quite include human women, ruling out the majority of trouble I'd be inclined to cause."

"Indeed, my friend,"Ayrul muttered, although it was hard to distinguish just what he was agreeing to.
It was then, that the train roared into life. Hungry engines being shovelled coal so those wheels and gears and little metal bars would movie. Soon, you were off, heading down the track, towards Greece, at a quick and steady pace, with nothing but this strange person for company.
Ayrul stuck his head out the aisle, and shouted at the trolly for some water. He wasn't about to give you anything stronger than that, afterall. The woman pushing the trolly happily rolled it on up the aisle and poured a little mug of water for you. She was a very pretty sight, with her blond hair done up in ringlets, and her stewardist outfit clinging nicely to her frame. Although it was unusual for a woman to have such a job as this. (Timeline!) She nodded to both of you, then continued on down the aisle.
"Right,"says Ayrul, patting your shoulder lightly as it passed over the water,"I've got to go talk to some...people." It stood, and bent over you again,"Remember what I said. Don't get up. Don't move. In fact, don't even breath if you can help it,"it grinned cockily, and scurried off without another word. It didn't seem to eager for conversation. Not with you, anyway.
Well, at least you wouldn't have to put up with it during the train ride. But now you were alone, and there weren't a great many things to do when you're by yourself. Ayrul said not to move, but...did it really expect you to obey? There was a lot of train to explore, and some interesting passangers seated all around you.
For instance, a woman dressed head to toe in gypsy garb, carrying with her a set of tarot cards. A pair of pale skinned young men, both with long black hair cut at different length, and looking for all the world like they were twins. Of course, your eyes might be better caught by the pretty form of ladies. There was still the stewardist, and down the aisle from her, a petit young lady, with her nose in a history book.

Endenu decided to disobey Ayrul, and continue breathing. It's an activity he much enjoyed. He sipped the water, prefering it over anything stronger. Along with his distaste for white men, came a distaste for the alcohol they'd brought to his country...
He looked around at the passengers, and indeed, while he may not have preferred human woman for more... personal... company, his eyes tended to skip over the men. The young lady with the history book caught his eye, but moreso, the gypsy-garbed woman, as something flickered in his memory.
"I dreamt once that my cards had been read," he said, shifting slightly and directing the comment towards her. "And yet, try as I might, I've never been able to remember the outcome of the reading." He looked puzzled for a second; apparently the dream had affected him enough that it truly concerned him to not remember. Then he sat back slightly, wondering if the woman would respond, or simply ignore him. Either way, at least he was making an attempt at practicing his 'human social skills'...

The woman didn't seem to hear you. She continued to shuffle her cards, her wrinkled face bent over them and pulled into a tight grimace. Finally, she did speak, in a strained, whispery voice, like the dead howls of wooden chimes,"A dream can mean many things young man,"she flipped over one of her cards, peered at it privately, then shuffled it back into the deck,"It can also be useless." Well, that was pleasant. A seer who had her own doubts about seeing. The woman leaned forward in her chair, and twisted her loose neck to stare at you through puny eyes,"Did you want your fortune told, boy? Do you believe in that hocus pocus crockery?"
She patted the cards together until they were even, without any corners or sides sticking out. She offered them to you, her palm flat with them atop,"Pick one, young man, I've no patience for a full layout. The stink of this train and these people makes me nauseous."

"Indeed, dreams are odd like that," Endenu replied, quietly, unconciously checking that the small pouch he usually carried on his foreleg, when in Defore-form, was still in the pocket of the jacket he wore.
"I believe," he replied carefully to her question, "that there are more forces at work than most people care to acknowledge. And while some of what people claim is the supernatural may indeed be hocus pocus, I am not so quick to discount all of it."
This seems to be one of the few topics in which the saucy Defore isn't focused on females, and, indeed, can speak and think seriously about, oddly enough.
He drew a card from near the center of the pack, mouth twitching up in a slight smile at her last comment. The scent of these strange people also unsettled him slightly, though he found it easy enough to ignore.

"Oh, I quite believe there are some odd things out there,"her painful voice croaked and she plucked the card from your hands,"Spirits, gods, magic,"she snorted and set her deck down in her lap before peering at your card,"But apart of me refuses to believe in any of that. Werewolves and vampires, such nonsense! And yet,"she smiled, a toothless grin, and looked intently at you,"And yet I am drawn to believe in them."
Her attention returned to the card,"The two of wands. Established power and influence over others, setting goals, coming to grips with past decisions, developing a plan of action...so on and so forth,"she tucked the card back in her deck,"A load of nonsense, that's all this is,"she waved the deck again,"Your card simply indicates that you have decisions to think about, and need to make a plan of action. Hardly an interesting card at all."
She shuffled her deck, and handed it toward you again,"Perhaps we can find something more interesting about you, young man. Perhaps...ask a question this time, while you're choosing your card?"
Do you want to continue the gypsies game? Or perhaps seek out conversation elsewhere. The lady with the book was now tearing through the pages, excited or frustrated, and the two black haired boys were whispering quietly between themselves.

Endenu smileds back. "Nor can I deny belief in their presences." Amazing, he thought to himself, attempting to keep his thoughts guarded in his mind, after the event with Ayrul, that certain things my kind knows to be true and in existence are still questioned by most humans.
He listened as she explained the card, then replied with a bit of a wry grin, "What may seem uninteresting to one may mean quite a bit to another."
The card did remind him that he probably should have been thinking more about a plan. I'm going to be in Greece, where language might again be an issue... looking for one out of... who knows how many creatures wandering about. Though, I suppose I'm lucky, in that Greece is smaller than, say, Brazil...
He put those thoughts away for the moment, though, almost overly-concious about what went on in his head, thanks to Ayrul.
"Hmm, a question." Endenu glanced around, noticing the activities of the others, and growing a bit more curious about the woman with the book, though the current subject still intrigued him. Just one question, he thought to himself, and then maybe I'll see what's so interesting about that book...
He didn't want to ask anything to specific, and nothing concerning his past. After all, he couldn't jeopardize the mission. So, he asked simply, while drawing his card, "What sort of events or adventures may befall me?"

The woman arched an eyebrow,"Indeed. One man's trash is another's treasure? Old sayings like that hold some truth to them, at least,"she snorted, as if skeptical of her own words, and reached across the aisle to take your second card. She flipped it around, guarding it with her hand, and nodded,"The King of Cups,"she turned it, so you could see. It was upside down between her fingers.
"This is usually a good card, but it's reversed. The card foretells someone of great maturity and patience, hiding a deep insecurity and indecisive nature. One who secretly lusts for power, but lacks the courage, intellect, and worth ethic necessary to take it. A charming seducer who appears innocent and understanding, but is in fact selfish and unfaithful." She slipped the card back into her deck, wrinkled, pale lips lifted in a quirky half grin,"I'd be careful of my future acquaintances, if I were you."
"Is there anything else?"she asked simply,"Another question your curious to ask? Or shall I get back to reading my cards in peace, away from you young, adventurous men." She cackled sickly, her sunken eyes twinkling with an odd sort of light.
Farther down the aisle, the lady had jumped, suddenly, her book slipping off her lap and falling to the floor. She didn't tend to it instantly, instead turning to manage some thing beside her, her luggage it seemed.
Across from her, the two boys had stopped whispering, and were sitting in relative silence. One, with an old, leather bound book in his lap, thick enough to be the bible, and the second fiddling with a sheet of paper, folding it into origami shapes.

"Hmm," Endenu replied to her assessment of that card. The last bit struck a chord, but as reminiscent of Endenu himself. The description as a whole, though, could definitely be cause for worry, and Endenu filed the reading away in his mind, ready to take heed of it if need be. It was never wise to ignore a warning, obscure as it may be. "Thank you," he then said to the gypsy, with a little bow. "I shall tread carefully," he adds, "and safe travels to you."
Endenu's gaze flickered to the woman with the book, and, noticing that the history volume had fallen, he walked down the aisle a bit and reached down to pick it up, glancing at the cover as he did so, and thankful that he'd put in an effort to learn to read.
"Excuse me miss," he said, hoping she speaks English, "you seem to have dropped this."
