Yet another Trade Pick-up for Mem <3

Well, Mem. I was working on Emmanuel...and I couldn't decide which form I liked better...so I drew both <3

I played around with it and really loved the "parchment" look. Tell me what you think, if you prefer something else, I'll do that instead, but I really loved how this turned out. Much luff, m'dear.

After doing nothing but stare at the image for a full 20 minutes, I think it's time to actually...say something.

First off, Emmers is squealing like a little girl and bouncing about in a circle, attempting very hard to give a proper hug to his scarf because there's nothing else around him to be excited with.

...I think he has a new pair of boots. Look at that.

Anyway, he's ecstatic over this. He thinks it's very pretty...even though he's big on color. (I think he spent some 250 words grumbling about the color 'grey')

And I...am torn in two. One part of me wants to join Emmers in his wild squealing, and the other wishes to praise each and every minuscule detail of the work.

God. I just woke up.

"Good morning, Mem! Have THE.ARTS!!!"

I think I need a squeal.

-clears throat-

EEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Oh mon Deus! That's just...it's so...oh god. I love it. I just...it's....wow.

-cough-

Now that that's finished, I'll get analyzing.

I'm going straight to the words;

You don't know how perfectly that fits. Right off, I'd like to make it clear that Emmers is not a werewolf (or any other sort of lycanthrope), he's not a shapeshifter, and he doesn't have that illusion-thingy the wolves in Wolf's Rain do.

In fact, his "dog form" is his true form...and it's not quite a dog either (hence why I draw the nose weird, and add that fluffy mane-thing to the back of his neck. The first concept even had hooves).

While he's in the "mundane world" he's stuck in that human form, to blend in. But he's given some reprieve in that he can enter certain people's dreams/nightmares/etc, and he takes on his 'natural' form in this (unless they're dreaming about him, but I don't want to go into technicalities).

So...that was perfect. And you didn't even know. ;-; I've fallen in love with you.

Now that I'm done splurging random facts, to the image!

First off, my absolute favorite parts of the drawing are human!Emmer's nose. I have no idea why, but I love it. It's so...perfect. That shall canonically be Emmer's nose from here on out.

Next, I love human!Emmer's neck. It seems so very...alive. The spattering of stubble really adds to it. Bloody wonderful. My hearts attempting to force itself out of my mouth.

Then, the hand on the back. I can feel that. Not only is the hand itself immaculate, but there's really weight beneath it. I love that one little touch. If feels very...reassuring to me. As if human Emmers needs that contact with his true self, in order to be able to carry on in the Mundane world. Like he has to lean on it. Sort of a "don't leave me" motif.

I love how very well you translated the ear-tearing. It's impossible to get it to work perfectly, considering the size and shape differences between the ears, but you did it very well. Kudos to you, for that. (And I'm enamored with that little diamond shape cut in canine!Emmer's ear)

The fact that they're both grinning (and flashing teeth at that!) is positively wonderful. Emmers has a very hard time not grinning wildly at all moments of the day...despite having rotting yellowed teeth.

"His teeth shone like jaundice" is probably our favorite line from Chapter 2.

But, despite the grins, the both of them look a little...downtrodden. Which also reflects Emmanuel well. "I'm down and out, but I'll still keep smiling". The eyes, especially human!Emmer's give them very uncertain, even melancholic, expressions. It's lovely.

You did Canine!Emmer's nose bump gorgeously. I thank-you for that. And the little spattering of whisker-spots is lovely, translates very well to human!Emmer's stubble.

The whole image is very...alive to me (and Emmer's is now grinning wildly and shouting 'of course!' at me). There's just...weight to it, that I don't often see in art. It's bloody perfect, darling.

I'm very glad you liked this. It's always hard to get the "mood" for someone's character correct, and it's much harder when you know that the character is so important to them. I really did love the way that you presented Emmers, and now that I know a bit more about him, I'm really starting to like the character for himself, and not just his wicked hobo-design. X3

I'm glad that you liked the nose ^__^ Heh, noses are always a pain, this just seemed to work for him, and so did the neck. Ah, glad that I got the nose-bump on his canine form correct, I had hoped that was right...

As to color...you know, it's really odd. I'm normally a color fanatic, I LOVE color...this just. Umm...ok, don't kill me but I was listening to my Harry Potter book on tape set and started thinking of things like parchment and...this came out. If you'd prefer it done in color I can throw some on there.

You liked the hand? Huh, that was my least favorite part of the picture, it looked lumpy and kind of off to me. Odd how those things work out

Anyway, in response to your color comment, I love it without the color. The parchment theme is gorgeous. It really adds to the weight of it. If you want to color it, feel free to do so, but I adore the way it looks as is.

Emmers himself is a color fanatic. I don't share his opinions, I merely...inform people about them.
