"Where are you, darling?" A small lapine was loping through the rows of graves, calling out into the night with an almost desperate fervor. Her gait was tired and careless, suggesting both a familiarity with the route and a long period without sleep. She was obviously searching for someone, but an abandoned graveyard was a very odd place to be looking. It was a doubly unexpected place in which to find such a small, young femme -- unless she was looking for trouble. Badhbi Mór Ríoghna was, in fact, looking for trouble, in a way. She was looking for Death. Not death, mind; that would be quite unfortunate. Badbi was simply enamored with the figure of Death himself, be he the feared Pale Horseman or a more approachable entity such as the trickster talked of in some of the legends. True to her Desire, she searched for him on a regular basis, focusing all of her energy on summoning Death; so far, she had not succeeded. Ah, well, try, try again...

"Poor place to be looking for a love, I fear he won't rise for you this night..." The words came from everywhere and nowhere at once, a thin grinning maw could be seen in the darkness, but no body revealed itself immediately. Instead the young male wandered in a wide circle, investigating the small lapine, tasting her life and wondering what it was like for his brother. He had hold over the dead, but his power would be wasted on this one, he could not snap that string holding her to this reality. Not that he would, his brother was more the cold and distant kind who might do that on a simple whim. He was warmer in a sense, kinder. Those who were living, he beckoned them into his world with promises of dark romance and exciting thrall. Death was such a source of intrigue these days it was becomming less and less of a game to lure them into his trap, charmed by Death was becomming less of a threat and more of a promise. Too many had saught him where he would normally do the seeking, often expecting the figure of the last reaper who had recently faded from this world entirely. He was Death now, the Grim Reaper, growing into his powers and future responsibilities. For now he could only taunt the living and keep the dead where they belonged but soon, oh yes soon, he would be fully grown and all-powerful in the ways of dark and decay. Emerging from the pitch black shadows it looked as if bone-shaped pieces were missing, but in reality it was simply a set of unique markings blending in with the empty colour of night. The mask on his face left an air of mystery, did he have the hideous face of a skeleton, or was this a curse of some sort that none could ever see his true face? Perhaps it was just... fashionable.

A voice? Now, that was a thing that Badbi had not been expecting to hear tonight; no, usually her strolls through the cemetery were long and lonely, and fruitless in the end. But as she froze, her long ears quivering, she witnessed the mask of Death appear before her...
Her heart nearly stopped at the sight. She thought, 'He's here, finally! After so long a search, has he truly been summoned to me?' However, as the otherworldly being stepped forwards, fully materialized, her hopes plummeted. No, it was simply another Euclides; and, stunning as he may be, he was not Death. Her charming Grim Reaper was still out there, away from her fervently searching mind.
Or so she thought.
"I may be looking for a love, but I am not waiting for him to rise. My love has no need to rise from the dead." He was the reaper of the dead, separate from this world of mortality and suffering. Oh, how she wished he was here by her side...even in her youth, she knew that only He could fulfill her desire.

His smile grew every second by every word she said. This was the most fun part, chasing away all that disbelief. He had very few powers to name, they would manifest themselves when he became older, but he had the knowledge, oh yes, the experience was locked in a very strong and secure cranium.
"A cannibal then perhaps, come to feast on the empty shells of my children? Be true, I will not be offended if he has that instinct, for as much as it is said to respect the dead, trust me, they really don't care about these emty vessels any longer. With good reason." His tail flagged in the air, a stance of pride and affection as he thought of those waiting for him. It was not such a bad existance, their bodies now were so much less fragile, death was no longer a worry plaguing their minds. It was a a sweet release.
"If this love of yours does show up dead, I can assist you in being by his side for eternity... If you so wished it." He hadn't seen anyone out tonight, not anyone alive, anyway. He knew these graveyards like the back of his hand, he roamed about until his presence was needed elsewhere, to take the fading life that was left, extinguish the flame that had almost burned itself out, and to guide his new children home.
It was strange that a child considered the inhabitants of the afterlife to be his children, but he did. They were his to protect, to take away from this dreary place amongst the living, he could give them eternity... For a small price. But it was a price many were willing, eager to pay.

His children? Could it be...? Pfah. No. This youngster was not her beloved; she believed, knew, in her heart that when He came it would be explicitly to find her, to take her into his existence as his companion for all eternity. He would most definitely not come in the guise of an underdeveloped Euclides.
"I do not believe he will show up as what you would call 'dead,' if he shows up at all, for I do not think he was ever alive." Badbi smiled, a small smile, and a weary one. "And as for eternity, well, I do believe that his eternity is much more...unending than ours."
She sat down on the damp, brown grass, the limp blades tickling her underside. With a slightly mournful tone, she continued, "To be honest, I have never even met him. I simply search for him every night, as this seems the most likely place in which to find him."
Poor Badbi, how clueless she was as to the true identity of the one with whom she spoke. The object of her desire, or at least an aspect of it, was standing before her; and all she met him with was disbelief and denial.

Such a strange description, ah! Was she one of the death seekers, so enamoured with his image and power that she was blind to where he would lead her? Too easy, too easy would it be to suck her into his world if she knew, if she managed to piece it together. But alas, in his newborn state and recent molding into what he would be, angel of death, grim reaper, seeker of death, destroyer, he didn't yet look the part.
"Never alive you say, few fit such a description. I think I would be able to count them all on one paw as I know them well, we share a common bond after all. Such a lonely existance to live throughout eternity, but we are necessary in keeping the balance of life and death. You, poor mortal, cannot live forever. But you could, if you came with me." He began to circle again, massive wing cast into the air above his head, swaying in a nonexistant whimsical breeze. The voices of the dead singing to him in the night, beckoning him, as the living repelled him with such fear, such a lack of understanding...
"Why do you search for this eternal being? You have no grasp of eternity child, but you are right if I am coming to a correct conclusion, the eternity you speak of is much longer than the one you have now. I never knew your eternity, I have only my own, the one that I can offer you beyond this feeble realm of life and decay. There is no decay where I come from, my dear." One paw was outstretched, open and welcoming, though his eyes were empty and emotionless it seemed he would have smiled.
"What do you wish to find here, my dear?"

Badbi stood still, and time seemed to follow suit. The outstretched paw quivered in the night air, inviting, seductive. But Badbi did not reach for the clawed temptation, instead scrutinizing the other's form with her bright yet weary eyes. She looked him up and down, from the night-colored bones on his legs to the widespread ebony feathers above his muscled shoulders. Could it be...?
"The one I am looking for is Death." She said, the last word falling as heavily as the presence of the surrounding tombstones. "If you are not Him...then please, whatever you are, leave me alone. Talking about eternity like this...if you're doing this simply to get my hopes up, please stop now and leave me be."

His bow was elegant and yet stiff, the smile on his face reforming at her words. "At your service, my dear. I am the next reaper of this world, I am Death." The night seemed to draw in air around him in excitement, as if every body would rise from the grave to celebrate this statement though they all obviously were aware that this child was the next in line to take the last breath of the living.
"Do you wish for eternity? My eternity is long, and so glorious. There is no pain in my world, no mortal fear of dying, my world is forever, my world is death." He began to pace once more, though he came forward towards her, spreading one massive black wing around her, as if she already belonged to him. In a way, he felt she did. This one was indeed besotted with Death, and in a way he was excited, he'd never dealt with her kind before.
Stories he'd heard, but in person it was so much more... flattering.

"You...are Death?" The Desire was hesitant, slow to realize the truth; for, like a starving man at a feast, she could hardly believe that her search had come to an end. "Then you are the one I have been searching for all this time. Somehow I had assumed it would be...harder to get your attention." She chuckled, a nervous laugh. Then her demeanor turned serious. "But...why do you appear, so suddenly? Is it my time? Have you come simply to collect my soul?" Now that the object of her desire was so close, the thousands of worries she had always harbored assaulted her from every direction. "I have been searching...always. I am a Desire, as you have no doubt noticed. But my life has just begun...I do not want it to end, now that I have found you. I don't want to lose you so quickly!" Without realizing, she had drawn closer to him, unconsciously partaking in the shelter and comfort that was offered by his outstretched wing. She gazed up into his masked eyes, and wondered: was he truly planning to kill her? And if he was, would he have any more to do with her after the deed was done? ][ I think what she has in mind is more of a Grim Tales scenario...if you've never read the webcomic, grim.snafu-comics.com/?strip_id=0 ][

He allowed a simple bow to move his frame, wing still in place as lifeless eyes rose to greet her with an eery sense of a smile in their depths. "Indeed my dear, I am The Grim Reaper, I am Death." He was pleased by her excitement but confused all the same, she didn't seem the suicidal type, and ah! An explanation, she did not Want to die, but she wanted to be in his presence for some unknown reason.
"This is where I roam until I am needed, you simply came to the right place at the right time." The humour had been lost on him, but it was a long time since he'd had a day off to sit around and play knock-knock jokes with the departed. Go figure. "It is not your time, unless you want it to be, but it appears you do not." Unfortunate, but he was couldn't force it on one so full of life. No illnesses to play off, and it seemed like her time wasn't coming for quite a few moons yet.
"The dead never truly 'loose me', I know always where to seek them." His puzzlement was evident, of all those obsessed with death he'd never met one obsessed with, well, Death. She spoke to him like a lover, and he felt compelled to at least treat her kindly, after all, some day she would be one of his children. Or perhaps, one of those above. He was able to choose where the lost souls would reside, a tiring job considering the useless reluctance of many. He had been where Hades roamed, it wasn't so bad.

He answered her questions one by one, verbally ticking them off like a list, and with each answer the relief washed over her in waves. He was not going to kill her. He still had time. Time to...time to what?
Hmm. She had never really thought on what she would do once she found him. I mean, sure there had been fantasies, of the type that any girl would have -- him showing her to his home, or taking her on trips to a special someplace; him talking with her, intrigued in her every word; or him showing her his powers, or maybe even giving her eternal life or powers of her own, or...okay, so maybe not every girl fantasizes about those last few. And it was extremely bold of her even to assume that he would ever give her the tiniest special privilege, let alone any "special powers" or eternal life. But when one meets a supernatural being, these kinds of thoughts must be somewhat inevitable...it's hard to be so obviously in the shadow of another, and only natural to want equality of some kind. Let alone the fact that hope does spring eternal...give a gal a chance to be special, to stand above the crowd, and of course she'll grab it.
But for now, it was enough to simply stand next to him, know he was talking to her, and know it was not with the intent of taking her life that he had come to her this fine evening. But was he truly interested in her? As a mortal, she must seem odd to him, maybe an entertainment or the equivalent of a very quirky friend; or, like a weak little puppy, something endearing and pleasurable to own. Well, like her mother before her, she was never content with inference -- and it wouldn't hurt to ask.
"If you're Death, and you're not here to kill me, then...why did you appear to me? I thought it would be difficult to get your attention because, frankly, I didn't think you would come until you needed to collect my soul. Did I...catch your interest, in some way? As a simple mortal, I don't see what I would have to offer you..."
Simple mortal. Pfft. She had only just met him, and already she was thinking in his terms...well, one thing was for sure. Now that she had met him, she wouldn't be able to bear it if he left her. Doomed once again to her previously mundane existence...no, it was almost painful just to think about that possibility. She couldn't blow her only chance.
